Off the chain for at-risk youth at Open Shutter

What: “Unchain My HeArt,” a multimedia youth art show presented by La Plata Youth Services
When: Fri., Feb. 12, 4-8 p.m., opening reception and silent auction. Exhibit runs through March 2
Where:  Open Shutter Gallery, 735 Main Ave.

La Plata Youth Services and Open Shutter Gallery once again will be teaming up to offer a voice and venue to local at-risk youth. This Friday, the two present the second annual “Unchain My HeART” multimedia art exhibit featuring works of art by area youth served by LPYS. The show opens this Friday, with a reception from 4-8 p.m. at Open Shutter, 735 Main Ave.

Cosponsored by Stillwater Music and 1st National Bank, the opening reception includes a silent auction to raise funds to support expansion of La Plata Youth Services programs and services, live music by Stillwater Music students and faculty, and hors d’oeuvres and refreshments.

The ongoing exhibit gives young artists who share a joy of creating art the opportunity to display their work in a professional setting, engage with professionals in the art world and add a gallery exhibition to their resume. Local businesses may sponsor a piece of art by contacting LPYS. The exhibit will run from Feb. 12 – March 2.

Since 1994, La Plata Youth Services has worked with youth experiencing challenges at home, in school and with court involvement by providing them with the support and services they need. Stillwater Music has provided after-school and in-school music programs for youth since 2005. Stillwater has partnered with LPYS to provide scholarships for at-risk youth for whom music can provide a positive, constructive outlet for creative energy while building self-confidence and a sense of engagement in the community.

For more information about the exhibit or opening reception, call 970-385-4440 or visit www.lpys.org or www.openshuttergallery.com.
