National parks photo tour makes pit stop at Backcountry

What: Trailblazing Photography Clinic with Backpacker Magazine
When: Mon., Nov. 9, 5-6 p.m.
Where: Backcountry Experience, 1209 Camino del Rio

Learn how to capture the moment in the great outdoors as Backcountry Experience hosts a “Trailblazing Photography Clinic” in conjunction with Backpacker Magazine next Monday. The hour long multimedia showcase will be led by members of Backpacker’s National Parks Centennial Road Team,  photographers Aidan Lynn-Klimenko and Madison Perrins. The two have been touring the country’s national parks in celebration of the parks system’s 100th anniversary and will be stopping in Durango to share their stories, images and message of preservation.

They will also focus on helping local shutterbugs, from weekend warriors to budding professionals, collect their own beautiful imagery from our own back yard. Attendees also will be treated to a screening of Subaru’s short film on sustainability, “Who We Are is What We Leave Behind,” sustainability film, which highlights Subaru’s efforts to reduce trash in national parks.

In advance of the clinic, local photographers are invited to submit photos of Mesa Verde National Park as part of Backpacker’s photography challenge at #backcountryexperienceNPS100 on Instagram. Lynn-Klimenko and Perrins will choose one winner to be showcased at the event, and the featured artist will receive a prize package, including a gift card to Backcountry and outdoor photography gear.

“Backcountry is honored to celebrate the National

Parks Service’s 100th anniversary by collaborating with Backpacker Magazine and Subaru in such a unique way,” Ben Rockis, owner of Backcountry Experience, said. “We expect this will be a great event, and we encourage our local outdoor community to join us.”

The Backpacker National Parks Centennial Tour partners with Subaru to encourage new generations to explore and preserve America’s national parks. As the vehicle partner of the National Parks Service Centennial, Subaru is working with the national parks on a zero landfill initiative dedicated to significantly reducing waste going into landfills and preserving the parks for years to come. Lynn-Klimenko and Perrins are just a third of the way through their trip. Learn more and follow their adventures at backpacker.com/nps100.
