Free ‘Concerts in the Park’ series is underway

What: Concerts in the Park
When: 5:30 p.m.-7p.m., Thursdays through July 30
Where: Buckley Park, 1200 block of Main

Grab some food, a blanket and your dancin’ pants, and head to Buckley Park. Every Thursday this summer, the Concerts in the Park series brings a new sound to Durango with a free concert.

Presented by Alpine Bank and the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, this event began as a way to make live music more accessible to a broader community audience.

All the concerts in the series are free of charge and don’t require tickets to enter. Concert-goers are asked to bring their own chairs and blankets since there’s no set seating. Also, picnics are encouraged. But, if you forgot the basket, the local pizza purveyors from Fired Up will be on hand.

The diverse musical lineup includes:

June 25: The Tyler Gummersall Band – popular Country group and one of Bayfield’s homegrown success stories.

July 2: Leftover Cuties – their timeless jazz-tinged music, combines sultry vocals, pop-perfect songwriting and seasoned musicianship.

July 9: Sneaky Pete and the Secret Weapons – this group, hailing from Jackson, Wyo., returns to the concert series with their original dance tunes inspired by the “funkiness of life in the mountains.”

July 16: Doctor Roberts – a new generation of tribute band, bringing a modern sound to The Beatles’ classics.

July 23: Bacon – funk, soul and Ska band from Durango, known for its horn-heavy grooves that make you want to dance.

July 30: SHEL – infectious pop-folk with a subtle hint of indie inspiration from these sisters out of Fort Collins.
