Enviro Center celebrates Ed Abbey’s b-day

What: Award-winning viewing of “Wrenched,” live music by The Porchlights, and – of course – cake
When: 5 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 29
Where: FLC Student Union Ballroom

Were he still alive, Edward Abbey would turn 86 today. To celebrate – and keep his fabled activist spirit alive – the FLC Environmental Center and Environmental Studies Department invite the community to a “big ol’ activist-themed birthday party.”

Activities kick off with a showing of ML Lincoln’s award-winning documentary “Wrenched” (www.wrenched-thefilm.com), which explores the monkey wrenching era of environmental activism, from Edward Abbey to present day. The screening will be followed by live music from The Porchlights as well as birthday cake.  Come out and celebrate the lengths that people are willing to go in defense of wilderness and the natural world … and test your own. In true Environmental Center fashion, this event will also provide attendees an opportunity to take action, with regional conservation and activist groups on hand.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and film begins at 5:30. Music and cake will take place from 7-8 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, though donations are always welcome.
