Durango Green Drinks networking lives again

What: “Green Drinks” monthly networking
When: 5 - 6:30 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 26, and the last Thursday of every month
Where: Carver’s Brewing Co.

Once again, “green-minded” locals will be able to hoist a glass of locally crafted brew and toast the greening of the local community. After a few years’ hiatus, Durango’s “Green Drinks” gatherings have returned, with the first taking place tonight, Feb. 26, from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at Carver’s.

“We believe it is important that the organizations in Durango network and create more of a synergy to represent the citizens, wildlife and wild lands of this region,” said Katie Waller, of the Sustainability Alliance of Southwest Colorado, one of the event’s sponsors.

Durango’s Green Drinks chapter is part of an international collection of gatherings that span from Albania to Azerbaijan to Alabama. Like its international counterparts, Durango Green Drinks focuses on creating an agenda-free, fun, nonpoliticized venue for the community to gather, according to co-organizer Rachel Landis, of FLC’s Environmental Center. “Through networking, these simple and unstructured events have helped people to find employment, make friends, develop new ideas and get inspired,” said Landis.

The last Thursday of the month, Green Drinks partners with another local nonprofit in the back room of Carver’s from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Free appetizers are served and beverages are available for purchase.

Green Drinks partners include: Carver Brewing, FLC Environmental Center, Local First, Garden Project of Southwest Colorado, Thrive! Living Wage Coalition, San Juan Citizens Alliance, Mountain Studies Institute, and Durango Nature Studies.
