Where: Fort Lewis College Theater

Based on the delightful, yet poignant, writings of famed 19th century Russian author and playwright, Anton Chekhov, Fort Lewis College presents “A Chekhovian Sonata,” a collection of three delightful love stories.

Primarily known for his powerful full-length plays (“The Seagull,” “Three Sisters” and “The Cherry Orchard”) Chekhov (1860-1904) was also a prolific writer of letters, short stories and one-act plays. Included in the Sonata will be two of his most famous one-acts, “The Bear” and “The Marriage Proposal.” These two plays have often been produced around the world and are recognized for his comical treatment of the “battle of the sexes,” witty dialog and portrayals of common human foibles.

The first tow plays are directed by Cheryl McFadden, of Ohio’s Denison University. The third, “Love, Russian Stle” – a contemporary interpretation of a Chekhov short story – is directed by Dennis Elkins, of the FLC Theatre department.
