Back in Black at the Center of SW Studies

Dust off the Fryes and polish up the turquoise, it’s time to kick off the holiday party and shopping season in style. The Center of Southwest Studies is ending its 50th anniversary year with a bang as it presents the “Black Boots, Black Bolo Holiday Gala” this Friday night. The evening’s festivities get under way at 7 p.m. at the Museum of the Center of Southwest Studies.

The $45 entrance fee include food, an adult drink ticket, entertainment from the Be Frank Advanced Middle School Orchestra, and a silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind items from local galleries including Toh-Atin, Open Shutter and Azul.

There will also be a special ceremony honoring the Center’s 50 years of existence as well as the community members who helped make it all happen.

All proceeds benefit the Center’s awesome – and free – public programming and exhibits.

Warm up with a ‘Bite of Jazz’

Summer evenings at the Purgatory tent may be a distant memory, but Music in the Mountains is still offering opportunities to warm up to some music this winter. This Thursday, the local music festival presents “A Bite of Jazz” featuring the Jeff Solon ensemble heating up the St. Mark’s stage.

The evening kicks off at 6:15 p.m. with dinner by the High Notes and drinks from the Wine Merchant.

Then, the good times will roll as Solon’s ensemble performs music from the American Song Book, featuring some of the most popular and beloved songs of the 20th century.
