Making a dash for the Powerhouse

What: Color Dash 5K, a fundraiser for Powerhouse Science Center
When: 10:30 a.m., Sun., July 27
Where: Three Springs

The Color Dash, a national fundraising organization, will partner with Durango’s Powerhouse Science Center and Three Springs to bring the first Color Dash 5K to town this Sunday.

The family friendly, all-ages event features a new twist on the idea of a fun run. At each kilometer, there will be a color station showering participants in an array of nontoxic, cornstarch-based colors. By the end of the race, people are typically covered in a patchwork of rainbow colors.

“We are thrilled to be teaming up with Three Springs and the great folks of the Color Dash to bring this exciting and unique event to Durango,” says Ashley Hein, Powerhouse Events Manager. “This community is a perfect fit for this type of event: colorful, athletic, a little silly, and always fun.”

Coordinating dashes all over the country, the Color Dash gives back to the hosting community by donating 50 percent of registration fees to a local charitable nonprofit – in this case the Powerhouse.

Having hosted other 5K runs in the past, Three Springs is well equipped to facilitate the Color Dash. “Three Springs is pleased to welcome the Color Dash 5K,” said Sherry O’Toole, project manager for the Three Springs neighborhood. “There’s nothing better than seeing our community come out for a fun, athletic event that supports one of the signature attractions in Durango. Our residents are excited to greet participants in what is certain to be a fantastic event.”

Following the Color Dash, the Powerhouse will host an after-race party for event participants and the community at the Powerhouse Plaza. There will be live music, games, and food and drink from Powerhouse Eatery + Libations.

To register for  the Durango Color Dash 5K, go to www.thecolor dash5k.com, or call Ashley Hein at (970) 403-1861 for information.
