Foundation raises funds for Nepalese schoolWhat: Bhotia Foundation fundraiser and silent auction for Nepali schoolchildren The event is a fundraiser for the Karma & Jyamu Bhotia Foundation, a local nonprofit that raises money for various charitable projects in Chyamtang. Funds will also be used to help the village’s children, whose school was damaged in a 2012 earthquake. They will also go toward bringing in qualified teachers, expanding the school’s library and providing a daily lunch to students. “Support from you will open the door of opportunity for children in Chyamtang and help them to become the leaders of tomorrow,” read a news release from the Bhotia foundation. In October, Karma will be returning to Chyamtang for the first time in 25 years, bringing with him a group of volunteers. During their time in Chyamtang, the group will help with several service projects, including helping to repair the school. Next week’s fundraiser will also feature a silent auction, with bidding closing at 8 p.m., and items are still being accepted for the auction.
