Bottoms Up

Dotted along the roadsides that criss-cross the Southwest, a story, though a tragic one, unfolds through colorful handmade memorials. One can’t help but notice such colorful displays as they whoosh past the car window, especially when navigating the loneliest of roads. The tradition, rooted in Hispanic culture, often marks the last place a traveler was among the living. Some sites are maintained and well kept, while others slowly dissolve back into the landscape. Nevertheless, they serve as a constant reminder to keep two hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. Here’s a look:
