Where: Community Concert Hall
When: Sat., March 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Zimbabwe’s national treasure and living Afropop legend Oliver Mtukudzi and his ensemble, The Black Spirits, take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Sat., March 23 at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College.

Mtukudzi is revered as a talented guitarist, singer and songwriter. His music is inspired by the hypnotic rhythms of the mbira (thumb piano). He also incorporates South African urban music, an energetic Zimbabwean pop style known as “jit,” and the traditional kateke drumming of his clan.
A member of Zimbabwe’s Kore Kore tribe, Mtukudzi sings in the nation’s Shona language, as well as Ndebele and English. His deep, gutsy voice and talent for writing songs reflects the daily life and struggles of his people.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the dance floor will be open for this performance. For more information about the event, visit www.durangoconcerts.com.
