Sledding may be one of the most time-honored of all winter gravity sports. First known to be used by native tribes residing in the snowy climes of Northern Europe, sleds have an impressive lineage ranging from animal skin to toboggan to inner tube. Wherever there’s snow, there’s bound to be sledders. And one thing is for certain: It’s rare to walk away unscathed after a good sledding session. Here’s a look at a few local sledding hills where conditions are currently firm, fast and frighteningly fun.
