Novelist shares new thriller at Maria’s
What: Meet the Author with William J. Cobb
Where: Maria’s Bookshop
When: Tues., Sept. 25, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
William J. Cobb, author of The Bird Saviors, shares his latest suspense novel for the Meet the Author event from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tues., Sept. 25, at Maria’s Bookshop, 960 Main Ave.
Cobb, a novelist, essayist and short fiction writer, tells the story of Ruby Cole. When a dust storm engulfs her Colorado town and pink snow blankets the streets, a heart-breaking decision faces Ruby. This girl who counts birds must abandon her baby or give in to her father and marry a man, more than twice her age who already has two wives.
Ruby chooses to run, setting in motion a series of events that upend the lives of everyone, including a grieving ornithologist who is studying the decline of bird populations. Alongside the intertwining cast of characters is a growing criminal enterprise that evolves from cattle rustling to kidnapping to murder as events continue to spin out of control.
The Bird Saviors is a story of defiance, anger and compassion, in which a young woman ultimately struggles to free herself and raise her daughter in the chaos of the New West.
Cobb has also written The Fire Eaters, Goodnight, Texas and a book of stories, The White Tattoo.
