Cowboy Poetry Gathering rides back into town
What: 24th annual Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering
Where: All over downtown Durango
When: Thur., Oct. 4 - Sat., Oct. 6
 
Spurs, saddles and spoken words come together for the 24th annual Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering, which returns starting Thursday.
 
The Gathering brings to town cowboy poets, musicians and storytellers for the three-day festival. Events get under way with an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. at the Durango Arts Center, 802 E. 2nd Ave. This evening features Western art from private collections and may never be available to the public again. Also offered is the Daytime Theme Sessions from 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 6, at the Strater, General Palmer and Rochester hotels.
 
New editions to the annual event include a free poetry writing workshop, a Western literature workshop and two free concerts. The festival concludes with the Cowboy Parade along Main Avenue at 10 a.m. Sat., Oct. 6. It’s one of the largest “motorless” parades in the state.
