The Tarot deck comes to life at Arts Center

What: 3rd annual Living Tarot Oracle
Where: Durango Arts Center
When: Sat., Nov. 10, 5-8 p.m. & Sun., Nov. 11, 3-6 p.m.

The Tarot deck comes to life with the 3rd annual Living Tarot Oracle from 5-8 p.m. Sat., Nov. 10, and 3-6 p.m. Sun., Nov. 11 at the Durango Arts Center, 802 E. 2nd Ave.

The Tarot began as a precursor to modern day playing cards. It came to life in the mid-15th century, and continues to do so with this unique, interactive event. The 22 major arcane, like the Fool, the Magician, the High Priestess and the Hanged Man, are all represented. Each card has an individual station and a representative “Living Oracle” in full costume.

Participants consult with card readers that can help them frame a question and then pull one to three cards from the deck. Those cards will direct them to the “Living Oracles” that best reflect the cards they chose. Then they’ll get a chance to talk with someone who is very familiar with the Tarot about the meaning of the cards. The readings are limited to three cards, but participants can ask another question with another reading.
A free “Tarot Teach-In” with Carrie Paris is another opportunity to learn about the Tarot and how personal cards can influence someone’s life and help them find harmony. This event takes place Fri., Nov. 9, from 6-8 p.m. at the Arts Center.

Brought to you by Tammy Graham Productions. For additional information, visit www.durangoarts.org or call 759-9716.

‘Choose Your Adventure’ lands at Pine Needle

What: Latest backcountry ski flick from Powderwhore Productions
Where: Pine Needle Mountaineering
When: Tues., Nov. 13, 8 p.m.

Which way down the mountain? Discover the path and “Choose Your Adventure” at 8 p.m. Tues., Nov. 13, at Pine Needle Mountaineering.
The crew from Powderwhore Productions, a backcountry ski film company from Utah, travels to Chile, France, Norway, Alaska, Canada and Utah for its eighth annual ski movie, “Choose Your Adventure.”

The filmmakers travel light and move fast, trying to keep up with a mixed bag of characters and capture their actions and motivations as they head for the mountains. It’s about real people and an authentic experience.

Modeled after the popular book series, “Choose Your Own Adventure,” the film keeps the viewer guessing. Whether exploring an abandoned mining town in the Arctic, dropping off cliffs in British Columbia, plunging into the Antarctic Sea, catching up with crusty locals in the Wasatch or blasting through deep powder, the movie features real stories and action-packed adventures. For additional information, visit www.powderwhore.com or call 247-8728.
