Hozhoni Days returns to FLC
What: 48th Annual Hozhoni Days Powwow
Where: Fort Lewis College, Whalen Gymnasium
When: Fri., March 30 and Sat., March 31

Fort Lewis College’s premier spring event, Hozhoni Days, returns to Fort Lewis College this week, marking the 48th year of celebrating Native American heritage and culture.

Hozhoni Days, which is Navajo for “Days of Beauty,” began earlier this week with the Ms. Hozhoni pageant. Throughout the remainder of the week, contestants will present native food and traditional talents, with Ms. Hozhoni named Saturday night in Whalen Gymnasium. The winner will serve as ambassador of Wanbli Ota and the Fort Lewis College Native community during the 2012-13 school year.

Prior to the crowning of Ms. Hozhoni, there will be a powwow encompassing Native Americans from throughout the nation dancing, singing and performing traditional tribal celebrations.

This year’s powwow will be preceded by a feature-length documentary on Alaskan native culture, “Smokin’ Fish,” which shows Thurs., March 29, in FLC Noble Hall, Room 125.

For more information on Hozhoni Days, contact Myra Britton at 247-7221, or visit www.fortlewis.edu.
