The electric car returns with a vengeance

The electric car is back for revenge.
 
The documentary “Revenge of the Electric Car” shows at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Durango Discovery Museum’s Boiler Room Theater, 1333 Camino del Rio. The film returns for an encore screening at 8 p.m. Tuesday at The Back Space Theatre, 1120 Main Ave.
 
Thousands of new electric cars were reportedly destroyed by the companies that built them in 2006, and now they’re back. “Revenge” follows several major car makers producing new models, and tells their stories as electric cars make a global resurgence. Cameras capture Nissan, GM and Tesla Motors as they try to become the best and most adored electric car makers on the market.
 
Rocky Mountain PBS sponsors the two screenings of the Independent Lens film, narrated by Tim Robbins and directed by Chris Paine. A panel discussion follows, featuring representatives of the “Transition Town” movement and Sustainability Alliance of Southwest Colorado.
