Canines take steps toward curing cancer
What: Canines for the Cure Dog Walk and Bark for Life Festival
Where: Santa Rita Park
When: Sat., June 16, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Durangoans take their best friends on a stroll starting from Santa Rita Park for the Canines for the Cure Dog Walk and Bark for Life Festival at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The day-long festival gets folks and their friends involved with this fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. The dog walk begins at 10 a.m. when a parade of puppies head on a 1.5-mile trek up the River Trail and then back to the park for a day of fun starting at 11 a.m.

Both the kids and the dogs can go Bobbing for Apples or enjoy Dog Art. The event also features face painting, dog massage and bath, and an agility competition.

Starting at noon, The Adoptable Parade gets under way with pups from the La Plata Humane Society and Annie’s Orphans. Dogs and their families can join in contests like musical sit, tail wagging, owner/dog look-a-like and best kisser, going on from 1-2:30 p.m. Capping off the day’s events is a frisbee contest from 2:30-3 p.m. Food and drinks will be available.

For information, visit barkforlife.laplatarelay.com.

Daddyfest, Motor Expo celebrate Dad

What: Daddyfest and Duranog motor Expo
Where: Main Avenue between College Drive and 12th Street
When: Sat., June 16, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

It’s the time of year to celebrate Dear Old Dad. The Durango Discovery Museum hosts the 8th annual Daddyfest from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday on Main Avenue between 10th and 12th streets.

This year’s theme is Makerfest. Part science museum, part county fair and part dad’s workshop, the event is dedicated to the building, creating and tinkering.

Booths about dissection and snot making as well as the Wet Zone & Dunk Tank highlight the family friendly Father’s Day festival, which benefits the Discovery Museum. Drinks, food and live music are also available. For more information, visit www.durangodiscovery.org.

Another option for dad is the 2012 Durango Motor Expo from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday on Main Avenue between College and 10th Street. The event, hosted by the Durango Old Car Club, benefits the Mercy Health Foundation and Hospice of Mercy.

Dad can enjoy classic cars and trucks from all eras, vote for his favorite car in the exhibit, or take something home from the silent auction from custom pedal cars to local gift packages.

For additional information about the motor expo, call 247-8761 or visit www.durangomotorexpo.com.
