‘Concerts in the Park’ bring music to the masses
What: “Concerts in the Park” series
Where: Buckley Park
When: Thurs., July 12, 5 p.m.

The local music scene sets up shop downtown with the “Concerts in the Park” series at 5 p.m. this Thurs., July 12, at Buckley Park.

Local world-music duo Chad MacCluskey and Jonathan Latta bring a unique sound to the first show of the season. Guitarist MacCluskey and percussionist Latta kick off the free summer concert series with their signature Celtic and jazz offerings.

The event, hosted by Alpine Bank of Durango and the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, started as a way to make live music more accessible to a broader community audience.

Attendees can bring chairs, blankets and picnic baskets, take a seat on the grass and enjoy a new sound each Thursday. The concerts continue through Aug. 2.

Derailers, All-Stars battle it out at Chapman
What: “Big Trouble in Little Durango” bout
Where: Chapman Hill Rink
When: Sat., July 14, 7 p.m.

It’s hell on wheels for the biggest little battle in Durango. The Durango Roller Girls Derailers take on the Ark Valley High Rollers All-Stars for the “Big Trouble in Little Durango” bout at 7 p.m. Sat., July 14, at Chapman Hill Rink.

The Durango Roller Girls is an all-female flat-track roller derby league. This fast-paced contact sport requires speed, strategy and athleticism from its members. And, don’t be fooled by names like Brickhaus Betty and Megabash. These rollers take their sport seriously and hope one day to join the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association official league.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and concessions are available. Following the battle, the Derailed Saloon hosts an after party with live music starting at 8 p.m.
