Walk among the arts in downtown Durango
What: First Thursdays Art Walk
Where: Durango Arts Center

Take an artistic stroll around downtown for the First Thursdays Art Walk at 5 p.m. Thurs., July 5. The event starts at Durango Arts Center, 802 E. 2nd Ave., and continues around town through galleries, shops and other venues.

Coordinated by the Durango Arts Center, the art walk promotes artists and art activities around Durango. Beyond the typical gallery walk, this event offers special entertainment and educational opportunities along the way at galleries and other venues.

Some of the participating galleries are the Arts Center, Earthen Vessel Gallery, Gallery 530, Sorrel Sky Gallery, Toh-Atin Gallery, and Wildshots. Participants get the chance to meet handmade paper artist Christen Weathers at Earthen Vessel Gallery, or view photos, paintings and prints of bicycle images by Mary Kenez and Dieter Runge at Gallery 530. Toh-Atin hosts Navajo inlay artist Jimmy Poyer, and Sorrel Sky is featuring artist Sharon Abshagen along with live music from Robby Overfield.

Other stops include Eno, the Rochester Hotel, Steaming Bean and Steve Gates Architect. Guide books can be picked up at participating locations.

Fairgrounds sparkle with the Gem and Mineral Show
What: 59th annual Four Corners Gem & Mineral Show
Where: La Plata County Fairgrounds
When: Fri., July 6 - Sun., July 8
Dig in to the 59th annual Four Corners Gem & Mineral Show this weekend at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.

The event opens Friday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. with almost 40 venders offering everything from small fossils to finished jewelry and artwork. Hosted by the Four Corners Gem & Mineral Club, the show continues Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Some of the products offered include jewelry-making tools and equipment, gems, minerals, fossils and beading.
\But it’s not all about vendors. The event also has activities for kids, gold panning, a silent auction, raffle and free door prizes.
