Where: Community Concert Hall
When: Tues., Jan. 17, at 7 p.m.
The body-bending and mind-blowing Pilobolus Dance Theatre returns to the Fort Lewis College Community Concert Hall at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

This award-winning troupe celebrates 40 years of performing unique choreography that utilizes weight-sharing between partners to create a unique form of modern dance that resembles sculpture more than dance.

After performing in 63 countries around the world and on countless TV shows, including “Sesame Street” and “60 minutes,” Pilobolus worked with the popular band OK Go to produce the dance troupe’s first music video “All is not Lost,” which was nominated for a 2012 Grammy in the Best Short Form Music Video category.

Some of the routines scheduled for Durangoans include “Particle Zoo,” where a quartet of performers play the odd-man out; “The Transformation,” a shadow dance; “Duet,” a rarely performed piece about attraction and the struggle for power; and “Seraph,” a routine that looks at the relationship between man and machine.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for refreshments and snacks. For additional information, call 247-7657 or visit www.durangoconcerts.com.

The event, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of La Plata County and the library, examines issues of concern for U.S. policymakers through thought-provoking and impartial discussions.

The first topic, titled “Middle East Realignment,” focuses on the recent revolts and uprisings in the Middle East. Attendees will talk about what lies ahead for the region and how the U.S. can relate to these new regimes.

Each week a different topic will be discussed. Other subjects include “Promoting Democracy,” “Mexico,” “Cybersecurity,” “Exit from Afghanistan,” “State of the Oceans,” “Indonesia” and “Energy Geopolitics.”

The same topic is planned for Tuesday and Thursday, so attendees can attend either day. The event returns at the same time with the final discussion, scheduled for April 26.
