Women Build it for Habitat for Humanity
What: Women Build Saturdays
Where: Two homes in Bayfield
When: Saturday, Aug. 18, all day
Women Build it for the Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County and the community of Bayfield on Sat., Aug. 18.
The Women Build Program is a part of Habitat for Humanity. It gets women involved with home construction, providing opportunities for women to learn construction in a supportive environment while making a difference in the community.
Women Build and its partners recruit and train women to not just build, but maintain simple, healthy and affordable homes. Participants learn they have the capability and determination to be part of solving the housing problem by helping one family at a time.
But it doesn’t mean men aren’t invited to help and build a home for a Bayfield family. Everyone wins and everyone is welcome.
The program will also be working on a home Sat., Sept. 22. No experience is necessary to get involved and all are welcome. For information or to sign up, visit www.habitatlaplata.org or call 382-2215, Ext. 16.

Lawn Chair Kings headline The Summit Saturday
What: Lawn Chair Kings and Buster’s Ghost
Where: The Summit
When: Sat., Aug. 18 at 9 p.m.
Head out on the town with The Lawn Chair Kings as they headline an evening of live, local music Sat., Aug. 18, at 9 p.m. at The Summit, 600 Main Ave.
A local staple in Durango since 2000, the Lawn Chair Kings blend country, rock, pop and punk influences to create their signature “western garage” sound. Jeff Moorehead, the most recent edition to the Kings, adds a bit more swing and a multitude of instruments, including pedal steel, lap steel, dobro, banjo, guitar, harmonica, slide and vox. Along with Dan Leek on bass and vox, Steve Mendias on drums and vox, and Erik Nordstrom on vox, guitar and harmonica, the group mixes individual flavors into a catchy, good-time performance.
Opening up for the Kings is Buster’s Ghost, a local rising ska band that also headlines its own show Thurs., Aug. 16, at 9 p.m. at the Summit.
For additional information, visit www.durangosummit.com or call 247-2324.
