Smooth jazz meets sustainability at the Strater

Dellaratta, who works through Jazz for Peace, has performed with greats Dizzy Gillespie and Paquito D’ Rivera, and was named one of the top musician philanthropists by The Foundation Center, alongside artists Bono, Elton John, Sting and Peter Gabriel.

Chuckin’ some pumpkins at Fort Lewis College
What: The 1st annual Pumpkin Chuckin’ Trebuchet Contest
Where: Fort Lewis College
When: Sat., Nov. 12, 11 a.m.
Ready to chuck some pumpkins? The chuckin’ begins in the fields at Fort Lewis College with the 1st annual Pumpkin Chuckin’ Trebuchet Contest, sponsored by the Geology Club.
 
Once a medieval war machine, the trebuchet has found a new purpose. When fall rolls around, chucking the pumpkins becomes the trade for this ancient tool.
 
Registration is required by Thurs., Nov. 10 (today) for this family-friendly event. The Lil’ Chuckers will also get a chance to chuck with the mini pumpkin shot put contest for children under 10.
 
The event will also feature a Pumpkin Dessert Contest, judged by students and area chefs.
 
All proceeds will benefit the geology club, hoping to fund an upcoming trip to Carlsbad Caverns. Costumes are encouraged, so come dressed for the occasion.
