Iguanas and Greencards ring in KSUT anniversary


What: KSUT Public Radio’s 35th anniversary bash
Where: Ska Brewing’s World Headquarter, 225 Girard
When: Sat., July 23 from 2-9 p.m.  
KSUT celebrates three-and-a-half decades on the air this week. The public radio station is hosting a July 23 bash at Ska Brewing World Headquarters, and the Iguanas, the Greencards and Cosmic Accident play the show.

The New Orleans-based Iguanas will make a return to Durango, and the rising Americana band, the Greencards will make their local debut at the show. Local favorites Cosmic Accident will open the concert. In addition, attendees can greet the brewer-cyclists at Ska as they return from their 400-mile ride across Colorado, and there will be numerous door prizes and giveaways plus Louisiana cuisine from Norton’s Catering/Highway 3 Roadhouse, Mexican from Zia Taqueria and Rick’s Chix and of course, beer from Ska.

“The Shape of Things” goes on stage in Durango this week. Mona Wood-Patterson and Charles Ford’s Merely Players bring “the theatrical work of art” to the Backstage Theatre on July 21-23 and 27-30. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m.  
 
“The Shape of Things” is set in a small college town and follows four young students who become emotionally and romantically involved with each other. Central to the play are questions on the nature of art, psychopathy, intimacy and love. Cast members include both Durango High School alumni and professional actors – Elizabeth Gray, Adam Fontana, Erik Andersson and Lynzee Newton.
The play is geared toward mature audiences, and reservations are recommended as there will be only 65 seats each night. For more information, call 749-8585.
