John Kent likes to play with juice. A true high voltage enthusiast, he has been exploring electricity using different types of resonating transformer circuits, commonly known as Tesla coils. First invented by Nikola Tesla in the late 1890s, Tesla used these coils to conduct various innovative experiments in electric lighting, electrotherapy and the transmission of electrical energy without wires, just to name a few. Kents own interactive electrical experiments will be on display at the Durango Discovery Museum, due for a grand opening in mid-October.

John Kent oscillates a mercury vapor tube over the radio Tesla
coil. Smooth waves of electricity arc into an Edison Bulb. An AM transmission tube glows hot with electricity. A sharp electric discharge bursts between two conductors, known
as a spark gap. Neon gas glows inside a vapor tube once excited by electricity
generated from the Tesla coil.
