Where: The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College
When: Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 1 at 4 p.m.
Top national theater takes center stage at the Community Concert
Hall this weekend. The hall presents acclaimed theatrical
productions on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1.
This Friday at 7:30 p.m., the prestigious Aquila Theatre will
bring a contemporary version of the Ibsen classic “Enemy of
the People” to the stage. The New York Times called The
Aquila Theatre “a classically trained, modernly hip
troupe,” and its production explores the impact of severe
eco-issues on a small town.
The story unfolds as a town’s trusted physician discovers
that the local spa, a prime economic driver, is toxic. The
influential play poses the questions, “When is it right to
speak up?” “Does the truth have a price?” and
“Would you risk everything for the truth?” Inspired by
the contemporary relevance of Ibsen’s play, Aquila is
producing “An Enemy of the People” as an entirely green
production.
Family entertainment is on tap for Sun., Nov. 1, at 4 p.m., with
“Tomie DePaola’s Strega Nona” musical. Based on
the children’s books, “Strega Nona” is the
musical tale of a friendly, magical witch who strives to cure the
ills of her tiny Italian town of Calabria. The play was produced by
Maximum Entertainment in association with Active Arts Theater for
Young Audiences.
Tickets for both shows are available on the web at www.durangoconcerts.com, by calling 247-7657 or at the Downtown
Ticket Office at 7th and Main Ave.
