The FLC Theatre presents ‘Seraphic Circus’
What: An original, full-length dance-theatre production
Where: The Mainstage Theatre at Fort Lewis College
When: Oct. 15-18 & 22-24

Dark, twisted, fantastic realism lands on stage at Fort Lewis College this week. FLC Theatre presents “Seraphic Circus,” an original dance-theatre production, for the next two weekends.

Directed/choreographed by Judy Austin and Kathryn Moller, “Seraphic Circus” was inspired by the Gabriel García Márquez story “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings.” The play tells the tale of a mysterious winged man who falls from the sky into a small coastal village. As the town’s people become curious about him, they overlook the possibility of his magical nature, preferring to view him like a circus spectacle.

“Seraphic Circus” shows at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 - 17 & 22 - 24. A 3 p.m. showing is set for Oct. 18. For tickets and information visit http: //theatre.fortlewis.edu or call 247-7089.

Home Grown Festival returns to Durango
What: The 2nd annual celebration of local sustainability
Where: Buckley Park
When: Sun., Oct. 18, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Durangoans can “share the abundance” this Sunday at the second-ever Home Grown Festival. The Oct. 18 event is aimed at improving local sustainability and includes a variety of events ranging from free “living local” workshops and sustainability demonstrations to live entertainment, a beer garden, and games for kids and big kids alike.

It goes without saying that Durango and La Plata County face unique food challenges. A short growing season, high land prices and geographic isolation have all conspired to make food – and especially locally grown food – a precious commodity on local shelves. Sunday’s festival hopes to offer solutions to these dilemmas.

Free workshops will hit on topics ranging from local economies and food production to brewing your own beer and food preservation. Live music will be on tap all afternoon along with with locally crafted beers and locally grown foods.

For more information or to donate unsprayed fruit to the Homegrown Festival call 247-7676.
