Telluride’s Mountainfilm pays Durango a visit this week. Durango Nature Studies presents a benefit screening of Mountainfilm on Tour on Sat., Nov. 7, at the Smiley Theatre. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The evening will get under way with food, refreshments and beer from Carver Brewing Co. The films roll at 7 p.m. and feature a hand-picked selection from past Mountainfilm festivals and pictures reflecting Durango Nature Studies’ mission of bringing nature education to both adults and kids of all ages. The offerings include: “Samsara,” a film documenting an ascent of a 6,500-foot rock route in India; “Fridays at the Farm,” a film on community supported agriculture; “Deep/Shinsetsu,” a meditation on powder skiing; “The Last Frontier,” first kayak descents in Papua, New Guinea; and many others.

Habitat wine tasting celebrates 11th  year
What: Habitat for Humanity’s biggest fund-raiser of the year
Where: The DoubleTree Hotel

Durangoans can go bottoms up for affordable housing this week. Habitat for Humanity’s premier event of the year, the Liquor World Wine Tasting and Silent Auction, returns to the DoubleTree Hotel on Fri., Nov. 6. Proceeds will benefit Habitat’s upcoming construction in Bayfield.

The wine tasting will showcase more than 300 wines as well as a broad selection of hors d’oeuvres provided by top Durango restaurants and caterers. Silent auction items include ski and train passes, art treasures, local gift certificates, and more. Also available this year are vacation packages to Monterey, Napa Valley, San Diego, Whistler, Cancun, and Las Vegas. The Jeff Solon Jazz Group will complete the package by setting the backdrop for the evening
