‘Under Milkwood’ inaugurates Spoken Word Series
What: A community performance of the Dylan Thomas classic
Where: The Durango Public Library, 1900 E. Third Ave.
When: Sun., Jan. 25 at 3 p.m.  

Dylan Thomas will make a local appearance this week. The Durango Public Library’s new Spoken Word Series kicks off at 3 p.m. on Sun., Jan. 25, with a readers’ theater performance of Thomas’ “Under Milk Wood.”

Intended to be read by several on a bare stage, “Under Milkwood” is the story of one day in the life of a Welsh fishing village. The play is rich in humor and material detail, all grounded by a deep sense of humanity. There are two narrators: First Voice will be read by Professor Larry Hartsfield from Fort Lewis College, and Second Voice will be read by Albert Carlson. The remaining parts will be portrayed by Tom Hafnor, Judy Hook, Maureen May, Nancy Greif, Tanya Milchen, and Judith Reynolds. Lisa Kramer, FLC visiting professor, directs.

The Summit hosts electronica from J Wail
What: A concert by the live-club-funk artist from Denver
Where: The Summit, 600 Main Ave.

Deep, organic livetronica goes on stage at the Summit this Saturday. J Wail, a live-club-funk artist from Denver, plays the local venue at 9:30 p.m. Local artists Peter Robot & C. Bryant open the show.  

J Wail uses a full, live act to create a DJ-based dance sound. He creates his style of livetronica through innovative techniques using guitar, bass, vocals, synthesizers and live electronics. Having played more than 450 shows in the past three years, J Wail has shared the stage with members of the Grateful Dead and String Cheese Incident and shared bills with Bassnectar, EOTO, Boombox and many others.

J Wail’s current “Tour de Bliss!” is making stops all over the nation and lands at the Summit on Jan. 24. For more information, contact 247-2324.
