The Home Grown Festival at a glance

Durangoans are encouraged to turn out and “share the abundance” this Sunday at Buckley Park at the first-ever Home Grown Festival. The Oct. 19 event is aimed at improving local sustainability and includes a variety of events ranging from free “living local” workshops and sustainability demonstrations to live entertainment, a beer garden, and games for kids and big kids alike.

A schedule of events follows:

Workshops

10 a.m. – “Food Security”

10:45 a.m. – “Basic Tree Care and Pruning”

11:30 a.m. – “Canning and Drying”

12 p.m. – “Composting and Vermiculture”

12:30 p.m. – “Bears and Wildlife in Food Production”

1 p.m. – “Urban Beekeeping”

1:30 p.m. – “Lawns to Food”

2 p.m. – “Home Brewing 101”

2:30 p.m. – “Local Wild Foods”

Live Music & Entertainment

12 p.m. – Hounds of Purg

1:30 p.m. – A-Bun-Dance

2 p.m. – Carute Roma

Throughout the 10 a.m.-3 p.m. festival, there will be apple press demos, sales of edible/medicinal plants and trees, a solar dehydrator demo, a fruit pie sale and more.
