The Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College exhibits
“100 Contemporary Works by Native Artists from the Hensler
Collection,” beginning March 20. The Bill and Sue Hensler
collection of contemporary Native American art includes a diverse
group of artists from a variety of tribes. The collection in its
entirety includes more than 200 items, including pottery, paintings
and sculpture, directly acquired from the artists themselves. An

25 works of “jean” art for National Eating Disorder

Three-band bill plays for Laos and Ecuador
What: A fund-raiser for FLC’s Engineers Without Borders
Where: The Durango Elks Lodge, 901 E. Second Ave.
When: Sat., March 22, from 5-11 p.m.
Durango’s favorite cross-dresser will take the stage for
indigenous people in Laos and Ecuador this Saturday. Ralph
Dinosaur, along with metalcore band Arvella and ska/punk band Oatie
Paste, play a March 22 fund-raiser for Fort Lewis College’s
Engineers Without Borders. The show runs from 5-11 p.m. at the
Durango Elk’s Lodge.
The concert will help fund Engineers Without Borders projects to
build water systems for indigenous people in Laos and Ecuador this
summer. All proceeds will go directly toward water systems material
costs
FLC-EWB is a nonprofit student-based organization that aims to
help villages in remote and underdeveloped areas without potable
water, sanitation, energy or other basic services. While installing
water and sanitation systems this summer, students will also
conduct local health surveys and provide some education.
Tickets will be available at the door and there will be
discounts for students with a valid ID. Liquid refreshments will

‘One Month After the Fire’ gathering
What: Gathering and celebration in honor of the 700 block fire
Where: 700 block of Main Ave.
When: Fri., March 21, from 3-5 p.m.
Durango will celebrate its spirit and resilience with a
community gathering this Fri., March 21. “One Month After the
Fire” is set for 3 to 5 p.m. in the 700 block of Main Avenue
and will honor the devastating downtown fire.
On Feb. 22, three downtown businesses – Seasons Rotisserie
& Grill, Half-Price Tees and Le Rendezvous Swiss Bakery &
Café – were completely destroyed by fire. To support
those impacted, the Durango Business Improvement District
established the 700 Main Ave. Disaster Relief Fund to provide for
the immediate needs of the affected employees and first responders.
Now 30 days after the event, Durango will celebrate survival and
recovery with a community party. Far from a solemn occasion, the
community gathering will feature veteran local rocker Ralph
Dinosaur performing from 3 to 4 p.m., followed by a short
presentation in honor of the firefighters and on relief efforts and
reconstruction plans. Refreshments will be offered by the Rochester
Hotel, BBQ Jim and Steamworks Brewing Co.
“I continue to have community members approach me asking
how they can help,” said Assistant City Manager Greg
Caton. “We thought this was a great opportunity
for everyone to come together to show support. This will
be one of Durango’s must-attend events.”
To further the efforts of the relief fund, Seasons will be
selling wine recovered from the restaurant’s extensive wine
cellar; Half-Price Tees will offer aftermath T-shirts for sale; and
Le Rendezvous will have souvenir bricks for sale, 700 of which have
been salvaged by the City from the restaurant’s exterior.
