Durango Telegraph - Three steps to going local
Three steps to going local

In addition to buying food and fiber from local growers at the Durango Farmers Market, there are a variety of ways for local residents to support local foods.

• Durango Natural Foods has joined the “Eat Local America” challenge along with numerous other co-op groceries across the nation. The challenge invites individuals to attempt to consume a diet made up of 80 percent locally produced food between July 1 and Aug. 31. Those who wish to participate can sign up at the check-out counter at DNF. Visit www.eatlocalamerica.coop for more information.

• “Meet the Farmers” is a regular event hosted by Cocina Linda. Durangoans are encouraged to chat with local farmers and ranchers over dishes made entirely from local ingredients. The next “Meet the Farmers” will take place on July 15 and will then take place on every other Tuesday. 259-6729 for details.

• Locals are encouraged to get involved with Durango Victory Gardens and their effort to network neighbors with interest in gardening and available growing spaces. E-mail durangovictorygardens@yahoo.com for details.
