Where: The Fort Lewis College Ballroom
When: Fri., Feb. 22 from 5:30-8 p.m.

Durangoans can step into a room filled with chocolate this week. Chocolate Fantasia, the annual chocolate lover’s event, returns to the Fort Lewis College Ballroom this Friday. “Chocolate Fiesta” is the theme of the 22nd annual event, and local restaurants and chefs will be competing for the title of best chocolate creation in town. All proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Volunteers for America Southwest Safehouse and Durango Community Shelter. Volunteers of America works to serve children, women and men in Durango who are fleeing from domestic violence or struggling with homelessness.

As in all years, tickets to Chocolate Fantasia are limited, and should be purchased in advance at North and South City Markets, Albertson’s, Dietz Market, 6th Street Hair Salon and Day Spa or the Volunteers of America Thrift Store. Durango honors Eating Disorder Awareness What: The 3rd annual National Eating Disorder Awareness Week
Where: Throughout Durango
When: Feb. 24-March 1

National Eating Disorder Awareness Week returns to Durango in a big way beginning Feb. 24. The event includes speakers, films and activities, and local artists have contributed numerous artworks related to perspectives on eating disorders, body image, self love, recovery and societal focus on weight. The exhibit, “Be Comfortable in Your GENES,” has local artists using blue jeans as their canvas, and pieces can be viewed throughout the week at Steaming Bean Coffee, Pure Soul Coffee, the Spaaah Shop and Mercy Regional Medical Center.

A schedule of additional events follows:

n Feb 26: 6:30 p.m. Eating Disorder Awareness Week opens at the Abbey Theatre with a special sneak-peak screening of the documentary, “Beauty Mark.” The film explores the personal and cultural demands for beauty and perfection by chronicling the life of Diane Israel, a champion triathlete, whose career was ultimately ended by anorexia and athletic bulimia. Joanie Trussel, a local therapist specializing in eating and exercise disorders, will lead a facilitated discussion about the film afterward.

n Feb. 29 6:30 p.m. Trussel will present a slideshow and discussion on “Body Conspiracy: The Media’s Influence on Women’s Self Esteem.” The talk takes place at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Rd., and explores how media images have women comparing themselves to an unrealistic and dangerous “thin ideal.”

All events are free and open to the public. More information can be found at: www.nationaleatingdisorders.org.
