A menu of open space options

Although no specific projects have been earmarked for the city’s new open space, parks and trails (POST) fund, the yet-to-be-determined Citizens Advisory Board is expected to adhere to recommendations set forth in the city’s 2001 POST plan. The City Council will have the final say on how the revenue will be spent.

Potential open space outlined in the plan includes parcels in/on/around:

• Turtle Lake

• Animas Valley north of town

• Missionary Ridge

• Animas Mountain

• Jacob’s Cliffs (aka Sailing Hawks)

• Raider Ridge

• College Mesa

• South Perins Peak

• Ewing Mesa

• Horse Gulch

• Carbon Junction

• Grandview Ridge

• Durango Mountain Park/Landfill

• Lower Animas River
