Summit presents Rusted Root frontman
What: A solo show by Michael Glabicki
Where: The Summit, 600 Main Ave.
When: Saturday, Sept. 4 at 9 p.m.

Rusted Root frontman Michael Glabicki is bringing his solo show to Durango. This Saturday, the singer-songwriter from the acclaimed genre-bending band goes on stage at the Summit.

Glabicki is in the midst of an extensive tour, and his set lists mix Rusted Root favorites with previously unreleased solo material. The entire tour is being recorded for an upcoming live acoustic CD.

"Rusted Root is a blast to perform with live, and we wanted to properly capture that energy," Glabicki said. "Rusted Root, and myself to a great extent, have always been about pushing boundaries and not putting ourselves in a box."

Glabicki founded the six-person band that eventually became Rusted Root. Known for its unique style of mixing pop with African and Latin instrumentation, Rusted Root self-released its first CD in 1990. The band has picked up momentum and fanbase since. Glabicki began his solo career by playing an acoustic set by himself before Rusted Root shows and now has moved on to playing whole shows alone. "It's basically to try out new material," he said. "I'm working on a solo album right now, and it's really good for me to get a reaction from the audience."

Glabicki goes on stage at 9 p.m. For information, call 247-2324.
