Slip, sliding away: Winter Bike-to-Work Day returns Friday

Those hearty souls who brave the slick city streets on two wheels for their daily commute get a little pat on the pannier, as Winter Bike-to-Work Day returns this Fri., Feb. 26.

The event takes place from 7 - 9 a.m. in front of Durango Coffee Co., 730 Main Ave. As in years past, there will be  free treats (courtesy Earth Girls Goodies), free coffee and tea from Durango Coffee, and free micro-tunes from San Juan Cycles. There will also be prizes from Smith Optics.

The one addition to this year’s annual event is a Business Commuter Challenge. Local businesses compete by racking up commuter miles throughout the week. In the end, the one who’s logged the most miles earns a snowflake trophy created from repurposed bike parts by a local artist.
