Second Ave Sports keeps on rollin’
What: 2nd Ave Sports 10-year anniversary
When: Fri. – Sat., July 22-23
Where: 640 E. 2nd Ave.
Info: 247-4511 or www.2ndave sports.com
2nd Ave Sports has been rollin’ tough for 10 years, from its dusty, old – and now decimated – shop, to its shiny new digs next door. And to celebrate, owners Gary and Karen Provencher will be rolling out the barrel, including a fashion show, group ride and birthday bash.
The festivities kick off Friday night at the shop, with a happy hour fashion show, hosted by Club Ride Apparel. The catwalk starts at 6:30 p.m., featuring the latest styles in casual bike wear as well as beer from Ska Brewing.
All the previous evening’s carbo-loading will pay off Saturday morning, as 2nd Ave hosts a special high-country birthday group ride. Riders are asked to assemble at the shop for an 8:30 a.m. departure for Coalbank Pass. Two ride options will be offered: Pass Trail to Engineer Mountain Trail or Pass Creek to Engine Creek. Guides will be provided by the Ska/Zia/Trek Team, and the shop will offer a shuttle to Coalbank to the first 25 people who sign up at the shop or call to get on the list (247-4511.) For those driving themselves, 2nd Ave will provide shuttles to cars atop the pass. And last but not least, there will be helmet demos from Smith as well as aprés ride refreshments from Ska.
After a quick rinse off and chamois change – or not – it’s back to 2nd Ave for the main event, the “10 Years Rollin’ Tough Anniversary Party,” from 4 - 7 p.m. The evening will feature music from Six Dollar String Band and Black Market Electric; food from Zia Taqueria; and beer from Ska as well as sweet giveaways from some favorite brands. And for the superfans out there, pro riders will be on hand to shake hands and kiss babies. Best of all, proceeds from the evening will benefit Trails 2000.
For up-to-the-minute details, go to 2nd Ave Sports on the FB.
