Gear haul

If, like many Durangoans, you’re putting off cleaning up the garage and putting away the winter toys in favor of the summer ones, here’s a little motivation. This Sat., May 16, Backcountry Experience is teaming up with the Bhotia Foundation to collect used outdoor gear – sleeping bags, tents, camping supplies, warm clothes, etc. – as well as donations to go to the earthquake victims in Nepal.

Backcountry will be holding the gear drive during its annual Flea Market sale, held in the store’s parking lot. Other participants of the event include Local First, Durango Outdoor Exchange, The Rock Lounge and Serious Delights.

Double Dutch

It’s like manna from the P.R. gods. Or cheese puffs from the Kardashians.

In the “where are they now” file, the Telegraph has the latest intel on Durango’s own self-made mother-daughter reality stars, Miki and Sydney Spies.
According to the latest update straight from the horse’s mouth, the two have pulled up stakes for the nether reaches of the Netherlands, where they have launched several ventures under the auspices of “SpiesGirls.com.” The latest offerings includes a website featuring customary scantily-clad photos of a brunette Sydney as well as services as “Spiritual Care Givers” to female clients. Although the website is vague on what these services entail, it declares, “Every woman has the power to manifest her deepest fantasies.”

As for their shot at 15 seconds of Youtube fame, the women have also started producing online “reality style” movies under the name “Bitch House Productions.” At 20 and counting, the monthly installments, which are shot with a handheld camera, are touted as “amateur and hypnotic” and feature the two in various states of undress and clandestine behavior, including partaking in Amsterdam’s favorite recreational pastime. (Note, this is all based on the press release from Miki Spies. The Telegraph could not actually bring itself to watch the videos.)

“The women are outspoken, down to earth and over the top,” the release expounds. “I don’t know how or why Sydney and I decided to start filming. Every pimple, wrinkle and oily pore is fully exposed. I look at Sis and say ‘****, it’s the raw me. It’s the beautiful you, what the hell, hit upload.’”
