Ear to the ground:
“F*** that deer. And it ran off! I’d have easily gotten two hind quarters and some backstraps out of it.”

This Thurs., Jan. 29, is more than just the second day of Steampunk Snowdown. It also happens to be National Youth Enrollment Day – billed as a day of action to educate young adults on the importance of having health insurance. Targeted at the elusive 18- to 34-year-old demographic, the point is to mobilize young people to sign up for Obamacare by the Feb.15 deadline. The event is sponsored by millennial advocacy group Young Invincibles; Enroll America, a nonprofit focused on maximizing the number of Americans signed up for health coverage; as well as numerous other organizations.
To help spread the word, the cause has recruited stars such as Beyonce, Nick Jonas and Katy Perry in public service messages that are sure to go over the heads of anyone over the age of 35.
Locally, members of the Medical Coverage Collaborative (made up of Axis Health, La Plata Integrated Healthcare, La Plata Family Centers, Mercy Medical Center and San Juan Basin Health) will be at Fort Lewis College's Student Union from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday. The members will be able to answer questions and help students, staff and the public enroll.
Other upcoming events in advance of the Feb. 15 deadline include:
n Tues., Feb. 3, 6 p.m. - Kevin O’Connor, Health Coverage Guide from San Juan Basin Health Department, gives a free presentation at the Durango Library. Not an enrollment event, but appointments can be scheduled.
n Sat., Feb. 7, 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Medical Coverage Collaborative members will be at the Commons Building, 701 Camino del Rio, to answer questions and provide eligibility and enrollment assistance.
