Ear to the ground:
“You will look back on this time as the moment the Tele took a turn for the Hunter S.”
– Comment on the Telegraph’s new HQ above El Rancho.
Where it’s always beer:30
Like peanut butter and jelly – or in this case Jack and Coke, Corona and lime, or PBR and mustaches – it just goes together.
After several years of boulevard life, the Telegraph is moving on up, er downtown to be exact. Starting May 1, we will be leaving the cozy communal nest of the Smiley Building in favor of the hustle, bustle and occasional debauchery of a corner office above – wait for it – The Ranch. Or 975 Main Ave., Suite 101 for those who don’t get out much or think we’re talking about the housing development on the way to Purg. And for those who are bad with numbers, we’ll be in the spot formerly occupied by The Loft childrens consignment store or, going back even further, The Vault. (Which, incidentally, is also moving this weekend to the corner of 32nd Street and CR 250.)
In other words, technically, you can now refer to us as “bar wenches,” although we don’t advise it. While we have had many great years at the Smiley, the move above Durango’s favorite watering hole has come as a surprise to no one, really. In fact, many people have commented that we “belong there” – whatever that means. And some staffers have said moving above The Ranch is “like a lifelong dream come true,” but we’re not naming names. “If only our livers were 20 years younger,” another bemoaned.
Although the allure of three-martini lunches and press day pitchers was tempting, let’s just say they had us at chandeliers. Three to be exact – one for each full-time staff member.
Not to worry though. Once we come down from gazing at our new chandeliers – or swinging from them – we will be up and running in time for next week’s paper. (With a few refreshment stops along the way – have you seen those stairs?)
So, if you happen to be in the neighborhood grabbing a beer or just closing out last night’s bar tab, or you want to test your balance skills (whether tipsy or not) on the Central Hotel’s “historic” stairs, come on up to 975 Main Ave., Suite 101 (first door on your right.) And while mail correspondence can be sent to this address in care of The El Rancho Tavern, to avoid any beer stains or unintentionally buying a round for the entire bar with your ad bill, please send all mail to:

And if you’re living it up down there during office hours, behave. You wouldn’t want your antics to end up in the paper.
