Lighting up the night for the Powerhouse

What: UV?Splash Color Dash to benefit the Powerhouse Science Center
When: Fri., Oct. 10, 7 p.m.
Where: Three Springs Plaza

Think of it as a rave with running shoes. The first-ever nighttime UV Splash Color Dash 5k run/walk is coming to Three Springs this Friday. The purpose of the event, the latest rage in fund-raising runs across the country, is to help brighten local communities – literally and figuratively.

Half of all proceeds from the splash will help light up the future of the Powerhouse, and – in a new twist on the color dash theme – black lights and neon colors (100 percent nontoxic) will help light up up Friday night in Durango.

A white T-shirt serves as the canvas for a rainbow-hued assault at each mile along the way. “Consider yourself warned,” read the Color Dash website. “Even though at one point you blend into the darkness, it will not last for long. As the dash continues, you will find yourself being splashed with an electrifying mix of colors, blue, pink, orange and yellow.”

Color Dash is a for-profit company that “feels strongly about making an impact” and reports to be the only national color splashing 5k that gives 50 percent of every registration directly back to the partner organization. “We are basically a bright, colorful and ridiculously amazing FUNdraiser! We want to come into your community, have fun ... and then leave the community better than it was.”

Entrance fee is $40 for individuals, $35/person for teams from 4- 16 people; or $85 for a family of four, and includes a UV Splash T-shirt, glow necklace and swag-bag. The event is followed by post-run party with dancing, food, drink and a “UV Color Explosion.” For more information, go to www.uvsplashcolordash.com.
