Annual caroling procession returns FridayWhat: Singing With Santa and holiday tree lighting
When: 5:45 p.m., Fri., Nov. 28
Where: Main Avenue, starting at the First National Bank parking lot and ending at Buckley Park
What has become the unofficial kick-off to the Durango holiday season takes place this Friday with the annual “Singing With Santa” caroling procession and lighting of the holiday tree in Buckley Park.
“Yes, the caroling procession with Santa and Mrs. Claus returns this year!”said Tim Walsworth, Executive Director of the Durango Business Improvement, which recently took over the reins of the annual event. “We urge families to come to Downtown and join us and make the procession bigger and better than ever.”
Staging will be at the First National Bank of Durango parking lot (259 W. 9th St.) at 5:45 p.m. The first 500 children to arrive will receive glow sticks, courtesy of the bank.
At approximately 6 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus, in a horse-drawn wagon, will arrive to lead the foot parade north along Main Avenue to Buckley Park, the site of Durango’s 100-foot holiday spruce. The landmark tree will be strung with thousands of LED lights, made possible by Eagle Crane, Durango Motor Company, La Plata Electric Association, the BID and Durango Electrical Services. The tree will be lit at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available until 7:30 p.m., when they will depart for the North Pole. Those interested in photos are asked to bring their own cameras. Festivities also include free hot chocolate and cookies. For more information, go to www.downtowndurango.org. |
