Veterans acupuncture clinic hosts open house
What: Self Heal Center Open House and Durango Acupuncture Alliance fundraiser
When: Fri., June 13 from 4-8 p.m.
Where: Self Heal Center, 635 E. 5th Ave.
Two years ago, a group of local, licensed acupuncturists banded together to help local veterans and their families suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. Calling themselves the Durango Acupuncture Alliance, in those two years, they have given more than 1,000 free acupuncture treatments at the Durango Veterans' Acupuncture Clinic, held Mondays and Thursdays at The Self Heal Center and Mondays in Pagosa Springs.
This Friday, the group will be celebrating this milestone with an open house and fundraiser for the Veterans' Acupuncture Clinic. The event takes place from 4-8 p.m. at the Self Heal Center, 635 E. 5th Ave., and will feature music by the Stillwater Faculty Band, food, refreshments and a silent auction. The center's practitioners will also be on hand offering free spinal screenings and NADA acupuncture treatments. Donations are appreciated.
The NADA protocol uses five sterile needles in each ear for 30-60 minutes. Research has shown it to be an effective treatment for addiction, trauma, pain and stress reduction.
Future plans include the development of a pain clinic offering more individualized care as well as a Veterans Natural Health Network, which will provide information on other practitioners in the community assisting Veterans.
