Purg benefit set for longtime DurangoanWhat: “HelpHOPELive,” a fundraiser for Eileen Reedy Friends and family are rallying around longtime Durango resident Eileen Reedy, who suffered a debilitating fall, with a benefit at DMR this Sunday. Reedy, who fell down a flight of stairs about four months ago, suffered a spinal cord injury and is currently paralyzed from the chest down. She is undergoing rehabilitation at Denver’s Craig hospital, where she is slowly regaining some use in her limbs. Proceeds from Sunday’s benefit will help cover the costs of medical treatment and therapy that is not covered by insurance. “After a life spent enjoying skiing, golf, gardening, cooking and traveling, and splitting her time between Chicago and Durango, (Eileen) now faces a future with many obstacles due to the extent of the spinal cord injury she has sustained,” her husband, Rich, wrote on a blog on Eileen’s condition. Although making progress daily, Eileen requires about 40 hours a week of private home health care in addition to 12 to 14 sessions per week of various forms of rehabilitation therapy. “She is a determined woman and is working very hard to get back to a productive life with the support of myself, our three children, friends and family,” Rich wrote. Sunday’s event will feature live music, beer specials, prize drawings, a silent auction, and more. Items for the prize drawing include skis, snowboards, gift certificates, T-shirts, goggles and swag from local breweries, Silent auction items include a Golf & Stay Package for four at the Glacier Club; a plane ride to Telluride and lunch for two; artwork; golf clubs; a wine tasting party, lift tickets; and more. “Eileen is a dearly loved member of our community,” Event Coordinator Deanna Luna said. “Being able to help her recover and get home is very important to many of us, and for her and her family. We’re very much looking forward to a positive and fun event that shows the true character of Durango and Southwest Colorado.” All donations are tax deductible. If unable to attend the event, donations can be made at https://m.helphopelive.org/campaign/5887.
