Frederic Chopin famously stated, “There is only one thing more beautiful than one guitar; two guitars.” This statement rings true for SoloDuo, a premier guitar duo featuring Matteo Mela and Lorenzo Micheli. Critics call their virtuosity and versatility “limitless.” The two artists blend creativity and impeccable technique in each performance. These rising stars of the classical guitar world have recorded two CDs and toured the world.
Matteo, who lives in Geneva, Switzerland, teaches at the Conservatoire Populaire. Lorenzo lives in Milan, Italy, and teaches both at the CSI Conservatory in Lugano, Switzerland, and the Conservatory of Aosta, Italy.
The event is sponsored by Guitar Dojo of Durango. Doors will open at 4 p.m. for the family friendly event, and the show starts at 5 p.m. For more information, visit www.guitardojofc.com.
Community cinema celebrates civil rights leader

Where: Durango Discovery Museum
When: Wed., Feb. 20, 6 p.m.
Learn about one of the most celebrated and controversial leaders of the Civil Rights Era with “The Powerbroker” at 6 p.m. Wed., Feb. 20, at The Boiler Room Theater at the Durango Discovery Museum, 1333 Camino del Rio.
The film, an Independent Lens documentary, follows the story of Whitney Young Jr. from segregated Kentucky to the national campaign for equal rights.
Young was a 39-year-old social worker when he took the civil rights battle right to the top of the powerful white elite of business and government, including three presidents. Although he was hugely effective in breaking down the Jim Crow system, he faced down death threats, ridicule and attacks from activists in the militant era of the Black Power movement.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the Durango Community Cinema and Rocky Mountain PBS event. The public is also invited for a discussion following the film. For information, visit www.durangodiscovery.org.
