Bottoms Up

Perhaps some of the most stunning bodies of water in this fair state of ours lie within the rugged confines of the Weminuche Wilderness’s southwest corner. A heavy concentration of 13,000-plus foot peaks, narrowly sculpted valleys of dense stone, and compact alpine basins create the perfect conditions in which to catch snowmelt and rainwater. The resulting alpine lakes, some of which are hundreds of feet deep, are second to none. Displaying every shade of blue imaginable, with crystal clear reflections that rival your bedroom mirror, they inspire a sense of awe and wonder that can only be experienced with a map and good pair of hiking boots.
