Drink in the Southwest at Maria’s Bookshop
What: Meet the Author event
Where: Maria’s Bookshop
When: Mon., Nov. 26 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Drink in the cultures and history of the Southwest at the Meet the Author event featuring Jack and Celestia Loeffler, authors of Thinking Like a Watershed, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Mon., Nov. 26, at Maria’s Bookshop, 960 Main Ave.

The arid landscape of the Southwest, described by the great explorer John Wesley Powell as a mosaic of watersheds, has shaped and nurtured a multitude of cultures whose mythic and factual systems are still relevant today. The father-daughter duo put together a variety of voices in this anthology, including Tewa, Tohono O’odham, Hopi, Navajo, Hispano and Anglo. It shows the perspectives shaped by consciousness and resilience that come from successfully enduring the harshness of the environment.

Jack is a historian, writer, radio producer and sound collage artist. His works include Healing the West: Voices of Culture and Habitat and Adventures with Ed: A Portrait of Abbey. Celestia is a writer, producer and yoga instructor in Durango.

The book was developed in conjunction with the documentary radio series “Watersheds as Commons.” For more information, call 247-1438 or www.mariasbookshop.com.
