Apparently, John Elway’s genius isn’t limited to fourth-quarter drives and Super Bowl championships. Denver’s Hall of Fame quarterback-come-executive vice president of football operations landed the biggest free agent in NFL history when he convinced Peyton Manning to sign with the Broncos on Monday. This came as little shock to me — I’d heard from friends with inside information that it was a 50/50 proposition nearly three weeks ago. With each passing day, it became more and more obvious that this wasn’t a passing fancy … that the Duke of Denver really wanted to put the Orange and Blue back on top.
