Time for Durango to get its pride on
What: 2012 Four Corners Pride Festival
Where: Around Durango
When: Friday, June 22 – Sat., June 23

It’s time to get proud with the Four Corners Pride Festival on Friday and Saturday hosted by 4cGLAD, the Four Corners Gay and Lesbian Alliance for Diversity.

The festival kicks off with a 7 p.m. screening of “Wish Me Away,” a feature-length documentary, at the Back Space Theatre, 1120 Main Ave. The film takes a look at the first country music star, Chely Wright, to come out as gay. Additional showings are at 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Things continue Friday at the “Pride Festival Dance Party” where attendees can get their “pride on” from 8:30 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. at the Abbey Theater, 128 E. College Drive, with a dance party, featuring DJs Phantom Cloud and Ralphsta, and a silent auction, with gift certificates, art work and more.
Saturday begins with the Pride Float Parade on the Animas River beggining at 9:30 a.m. Rafters can decorate their rafts, themselves or just join in the fun for the first annual river event, which starts at the 32nd Street put-in and runs down to Rotary Park.

After the parade, the park becomes the place for revelry, with the Family & Friends Pride Picnic from noon - 4 p.m. Food, beverages and ice cream will be available, along with live music, free astrology readings, henna and body art, kid’s games, and more.

The festival ends with a “That’s a Wrap After-Party” at 5 p.m. at The Lost Dog Bar and Grill, 1150 Main Ave. The party offers a kid-friendly menu with plenty of options for grown-ups, too.

For additional information about the event, visit 4cglad.wordpress.com/pride-festival or call 385-7202.
