Concert Hall to host ‘Hearts and Hands for Ginny’
What: A benefit for FLC Professor Ginny Hutchins

Fort Lewis College and Durango are reaching out to a colleague in need this week. “Hearts and Hands for Ginny: A Fund-raiser for Ginny Hutchins” takes place from 5-8 p.m. on Sept. 23 at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College. The event includes a silent auction, children’s activities and live music from Jack Ten High, the First Presbyterian Handbell Choir (which Ginny is a member) and the Westwind Pipe Band.
 
Ginny Hutchins, a professor at Fort Lewis College, was recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor known as a glioblastoma. She underwent surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible, and will continue radiation in Denver and chemotherapy in Houston. Ginny and her husband, Jim, a nurse at Mercy Medical Center, are the parents of Megan, 4, and Emma, 20 months.

Wines of the San Juan hosts annual Harvest Festival

Wines of the San Juan is once again celebrating the harvest this weekend. The regional vineyard hosts the Harvest Festival and Great Grape Stomp on Sept. 24 & 25.
 
Local residents can join the winery this weekend for libations, regional foods, live entertainment and of course, the Great Grape Stomp. Stomp teams consist of two people – a stomper and a swabbie. The stomper squashes and the swabbie collects the juice during the three-minute competition. Beyond the Grape Stomp, several of the region’s top bands, including the Kirk James Blues Band, the Durango Orquestra de Salsa, Waiting on Trial and Freeplay, will play.
